Byron Bay

Ask any local surfer who was the “first” surfer in Byron Bay and you’ll get so many different answers it could take a carton or two to debate.   Over the years, we’ve had several highly rated surfers emerge from the local ranks and many ex-pros retire to live in the area.

The Difference

Modern longboarding vs Traditional longboarding

The new modern longboard is lighter, thinner and more manoeuvrable than the classic traditional longboard.  Most modern longboards have a thruster system with a box centre fin and two smaller side fins.  Shapes vary from flat v bottoms, single, double or multiple concaves.  Tails also vary from rounded pin to a wider square tail.  A range of fin systems can vary the performance of the board according to the surf conditions and the style of the rider.
